Planning. For Life.

The concept of retirement is evolving. Our clients want to continue to explore new vistas, remain active and relevant. There needs to be enough purpose in their lives to get up in the morning, and enough money to sleep at night. We can get so caught up in doing what we think we have to do, that we may miss connecting with the people and experiences that are most meaningful to us. So, let us ask you...

...do you have a clear vision of how you want to spend your time in retirement?

Hi! We're Wistia. We provide business video hosting to attract, engage, and delight

Thanks for reporting a problem. We'll attach technical data about this session to help us figure out the issue. Which of these best describes the problem?

Any other details or context?

Our video, The EPIC Retirement, describes four keys to ensuring our clients retirement years are a time where their mind, body, and spirit thrive, not just survive. Let go of preconceived notions about retirement and consider the opportunities that come with seeing retirement in an entirely “new light.”

How We Help

Client Profile

Our dedication to making the client our first priority has set us apart from other firms in our industry over the years. We take the time to get to know our clients and what is important to them. We assist them in developing a financial plan that incorporates their values, needs and wants in order to reach their financial goals. From there, we partner with them to help navigate life's changes and challenges and live the best life possible.

History of Helping People

Our firm has helped high performing, driven professionals in the Western New York community over the past decade; including but not limited to business owners, entrepreneurs, and physicians, both working and retired. We work locally and remotely with our clients and their families as their lives evolve and move to other areas of the country. As a result, we have expanded our network and offer our services nationwide.

Many of our clients managed their own finances until they were faced with the press of time in their busy lives. Others have decided that they don't want to spend their retirement managing a portfolio. They recognized the time had come to partner with an advisor to help them navigate life's changes and challenges.

We also work with a number of clients that originally came looking for a second opinion and then realized that our planning and investment philosophy aligned well with theirs. These clients recognized that by partnering with us they could maximize their potential for achieving their greatest life possible.

Client Stories

Successful financial planning and investing are much more than crunching numbers, listening to popular opinion and understanding the latest market trends. As much as people need to know about financial markets, investments and wealth accumulation strategies, they also need to know about themselves.

Read on as we share a few client stories and how we have worked with clients over the years to address some of their behavioral tendencies that kept them from realizing their goals, and in the process helped them act in their own best interest and make sound financial decisions.

Our Process

Our retirement planning process is built around our clients. We take a holistic approach, because we understand that planning is not a product – it’s a philosophy, and it’s part of our culture. At Ogorek, you are the client not your money.

Living Life On Your Terms

We want to know what is important to our clients. We take the time to gain a better understanding of our client’s lifestyle and economic motivators and help quantify what they enjoy most in life. By working together, we get a clearer picture of where they are today, and how we can help them live the best life possible. Working with our specially trained team of professionals and coordinating with each client's legal, accounting, and estate planning professionals, we will analyze and coordinate all aspects of our client’s financial life to maximize their wealth over their retirement lives and beyond.

A Unique Approach to Retirement Planning

Our retirement planning process is centered around a handful of guiding principles that have served our clients well over the years. They embody the need to create a plan that reflects the retirement they want, plan for a long life expectancy, stay informed about rising healthcare costs, maximize Social Security benefits, minimize income and estate taxes, and don’t invest too conservatively or overspend.

Investment Management

As your financial advisor, the value we provide goes beyond investment advice.

Delivering Value & Providing a Steady Hand

There is a reason doctors don’t operate on their own family members, as having an emotional bond can wreak havoc during times of critical decision making. The same is true for finances where we are conditioned to avoid losses and often believe we are protected by selling an investment after it declines. This often leads us to make poor decisions, selling when we should be buying and vice versa. At Ogorek we strive to provide our clients with an emotional distance from their money and a steady hand to guide them during times of market turbulence.

The chart shows the range of historical average annual returns earned in the S&P 500 based on how long investors held their positions. Since 1950, 1-year returns ranged from -45% to +53%, while 20-year returns have always been positive.

Creating Better Portfolios

portfolio design

Most investors understand how their portfolio has performed over time, but very few understand the level of risk they assumed to achieve those returns. By carefully selecting the optimal portfolio allocation for our clients based on life stage and risk tolerance we can improve risk-adjusted returns through proper diversification.

As a Registered Investment Advisor, individual investments are selected entirely on merit, with a relentless focus on driving down our client’s expenses. Fees associated with mutual funds and retirement plans can add up significantly over time, and often going unnoticed by investors. We believe every one of our client’s dollars counts, especially in this low rate environment.

Lastly, we also believe it’s not what you make that’s important, it’s what you keep. That’s why we employ tax management strategies into every decision we make.

Monitoring and Rebalancing Investments

Keeping track of your investments is a time-consuming but necessary process. Annual rebalancing has been shown to add significantly to your returns over time and ensures that you remain within your desired risk tolerance. We regularly review our clients’ portfolio to ensure they remain on track towards meeting their goals and make adjustments whenever warranted. You never need to worry that you portfolio is in need of a tune-up.

Helping you live the best life possible.

Who We Are

Core Beliefs

Integrity • Objectivity • Competence • Fairness • Confidentiality • Diligence • Professionalism

Clients First

Our primary goal as a trusted advisor is to be available and to provide insightful advice to enable our clients to make informed financial decisions. We do not accept anything less from ourselves and this is what we deliver to our clients. Professional education is a critical reason for our success; to improve our technical expertise, financial knowledge and service to our clients.

Why Is It Important To Choose A Fee-only Advisor?

Fee-Based (fee and commission)

Fiduciary vs. Suitability Standard

Currently, many advisors and broker-dealers operate under the suitability standard of The Investment Advisers Act of 1940. In contrast to the best interest standard, the suitability standard merely requires that advisors ensure an investment or recommendation is “suitable” for a client, but not necessarily in the client’s best interest.

Fiduciary Standard:

  • Put their client's best interest first
  • Act with prudence
  • Provide full disclosure
  • Avoid conflicts of interest
  • Fully disclose and fairly manage, in the client's favor, unavoidable conflicts

Suitability Standard:

  • Understand their client’s financial situation
  • Be aware of a client’s investment experience
  • Know a client’s investment objectives
  • Recommend products and give advice suitable to a client’s circumstances

Mission & Values

Bringing out the Best in Your Finances

We are committed to the success and security of people.

Transparent leadership is the key to fostering a culture of trust between people and is the foundation of success. As a fee-only advisor, we have aligned our interests with our client’s interests. As a fiduciary, we have pledged to act in their best interests at all times.

We believe in a team approach to deliver the expertise and support that each of our professionals has to offer, to identify financial solutions that are relevant to our client’s life and help them succeed.

Developing strategies and continuously working to meet goals.

Always keeping promises and delivering the highest level of service.

Listening and understanding concerns, so that we may better serve our clients.

Practicing personal discipline, and faithfulness to the process, the organization and our clients.
